Prevalensi dan Zat Gizi Mikro dalam Penanganan Stunting

Keterlambatan pertumbuhan  banyak terjadi di Indonesia terutama pada masa balita yang disebabkan oleh asupan gizi yang kurang. Malnutrisi yang paling banyak terjadi di Indonesia adalah stunting. Stunting (pendek) merupakan gangguan pertumbuhan linier yang disebabkan adanya malnutrisi asupan zat gizi kronis. Prevalensi balita stunting di Asia Tenggara tergolong tinggi yaitu sebesar 29,1 % di tahun 2007, sedangkan pada tahun 2013 di Indonesia berdasarkan Direktur Bina Gizi Kementerian Kesehatan RI sebesar 35,6%. Dibandingkan dengan negara ASEAN, prevalensi stunting di Indonesia berada pada kelompok high prevalence. Banyak faktor yang dapat menyebabkan terjadinya stunting, selain faktor gizi saat balita maupun saat hamil dan penyakit infeksi masih terdapat faktor-faktor lainya. Penangan kasus stunting harus dilakukan sesegera mungkin agar kondisi tidak semakin buruk. Penanganan stunting dimulai dari penerapan hidup bersih sehingga terhindar dari penyakit infeksi lalu terapi pemeberian asupan gizi yang optimal salah satunya adalah zat gizi mikro atau mikronutrien. Terdapat beberapa zat gizi mikro yang dapat meningkatkan pertumbuhan linear pada anak seperti seng, vitamin A, zat besi dan kalsium. Zat gizi mikro dapat diberikan secara tunggal maupun multiple.
