ABSTRACT

Urinary incontinence (UI) is one of health problems that occur in elderly population. This cross-sectional study aims to determine correlation between blood sugar levels and International Consultation Incontinence Questionnaire - Urine Incontinence Short Form (ICIQ-UISF) scores in elderly group selected through total sampling criteria at Santa Anna Elderly Care Center in July 2023. ICIQ-UISF questionnaire was used to evaluate UI. Blood sugar level was measured using POCT according to standard procedures. Statistical analysis using Spearman correlation test. Out of 60 respondents, average age was 76.30 years, with 66.7% of respondents being female. Mean blood sugar level was 118.12 mg/dL and 11.7% of respondents showed high blood sugar levels. Average ICIQ-UISF score was 4.58 with 21.7% of respondents experiencing UI onset before reaching toilet, 20% during sleep, and the rest never experienced it. Spearman correlation test indicated a significant correlation between blood sugar levels and ICIQ-UISF scores (p-value: 0.028) with a correlation strength value of 0.264 (r-correlation: 0.283), which falls into weak category. The results show there is a significant correlation between blood sugar levels and ICIQ-UISF questionnaire scores. Blood sugar levels influence 8.0% of ICIQ-UISF scores, while the remaining 92% is attributed to other variables not examined in this study.
