ABSTRACT

Stress in type II DM sufferers can trigger the hormone cartisol which can increase blood sugar levels at any time. Apart from that, the stress experienced by type II DM sufferers can be caused by not accepting the disease they are experiencing and worrying about the disease not being cured and becoming a burden on the family. The impact of stress in type II DM that is not treated will increase the emergency condition of the patient which will cause various complications. Ergonomic exercise will inhibit the increase in the work of the sympathetic nerves which will slow down or weaken the work of the body's internal organs thereby reducing the adrenaline hormone which has a positive impact in reducing stress levels. This study aims to determine the effect of ergonomic exercise on stress levels in type II diabetes mellitus patients. The design of this research was a pre-experimental one group pre-post test with data collection techniques using Purposive Sampling on type II DM patients totaling 39 respondents who were given intervention for 15 minutes once for 3 consecutive days. Then analyze the data in the research using the dependent t-test. The research results showed that the average stress level before being given the intervention was 2.69 with a standard deviation of 4.78 and the average stress level after being given the intervention was 2.08 with a standard deviation of 4.68. Based on the results of the dependent T test, it was found that p-value = 0.000, which means that there is an influence of ergonomic exercise on stress levels in Type II DM patients at the Palembang Muhammadiyah Hospital. The research can be conclusion that Type II DM patients who were given ergonomic exercise intervention were able to reduce stress levels compared to patients who did not receive the intervention
