ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has had extensive and severe impacts on the mental welfare of individuals worldwide. Anxiety is a primary issue faced by adults during this crisis. Hence, it is crucial to discover effective strategies for alleviating this anxiety. One promising approach is Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), which combines mindfulness practices with an understanding of stress and its management. This literature review aims to identify and assess the potential advantages of MBSR in reducing anxiety among adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through an extensive analysis of relevant empirical studies, we have found that MBSR holds significant potential for decreasing anxiety levels in adults amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. MBSR interventions enable individuals to cultivate awareness of their present thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations. By honing this skill, adults can consciously recognize and respond to anxiety symptoms. Several studies have also indicated that MBSR can enhance mental resilience and adaptive coping mechanisms, thereby contributing to anxiety reduction. Furthermore, MBSR has been associated with additional benefits, including improved sleep, enhanced concentration, and increased overall happiness. These aspects are especially valuable during a pandemic, as excessive anxiety can disrupt sleep patterns, hinder concentration, and impact emotional well-being. Consequently, MBSR represents a highly advantageous approach for reducing anxiety among adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Such programs provide individuals with valuable tools to manage stress and enhance their mental well-being.
