ABSTRACT

Intensive room nurses must have the ability to process ventilator weaning because it can affect the incidence of prolonged ventilator use.  This study aims to determine what factors influence the ability of nurses in the ventilator weaning process in the pediatric intensive care unit. This research used quantitative-correlative description methods with a total sampling of 31 nurses in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Arifin Achmad Regional Hospital. The instrument used in this research was a questionnaire on the characteristics, knowledge, attitudes, and abilities of nurses in the ventilator weaning process, which had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis using chi-square. There was a significant influence between age (p = 0.002), length of work (p = 0.001), and training (p = 0.000) on nurses' ability in the ventilator weaning process. There was no influence between the level of education, knowledge, and attitudes and nurses' abilities in the ventilator weaning process (p = 0.552, 0.226, and 0.376).Factors that can influence the ability of nurses in the ventilator weaning process are age, length of work, and training.
