ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus as part of a chronic disease requires long-term treatment, even for life, so patients must have good self-care behavior. If patients cannot perform self-care, it can result in uncontrolled blood sugar levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between family support and the duration of diabetes mellitus with self-care behavior of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. This study was conducted using an analytical study, cross-sectional design, involving 88 type 2 DM patients in the Yosomulyo Health Center Work Area. Data analysis was carried out using univariate and bivariate analysis. The results of the analysis showed that there was a relationship between family support and the duration of diabetes mellitus with self-care behavior of type II DM patients (p <0.001). Diabetes mellitus patients who have poor self-care behavior are mostly found in patients who lack family support and have had diabetes <11 years. For families and diabetes mellitus patients, they should provide support to each other so that diabetes patients have good self-care behavior.
