ABSTRACT

Anxiety in the elderly is a mental health problem that can affect quality of life. Art therapy, as a non-pharmacological approach, has been shown to reduce anxiety levels. This study aims to evaluate the effect of art therapy on anxiety in the elderly at the Mutiara Senja Pekon Wates Elderly School, Pringsewu, Lampung. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with two groups, namely the control and intervention groups. Measurement of anxiety levels was carried out using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) before and after the intervention. The results showed that before the intervention, the majority of respondents in both groups had moderate anxiety levels, and the difference between the control and intervention groups was not significant (p = 0.772). After the intervention, the intervention group showed a greater decrease in anxiety scores than the control group (p = 0.004). Although the difference in post-test anxiety between the two groups was not statistically significant (p = 0.408), art therapy had a greater positive impact on reducing anxiety in the elderly. Art therapy can be an effective approach in reducing anxiety in the elderly
