ABSTRACT

Perioperative hypothermia is a common problem in patients undergoing surgery and can increase the risk of complications. One possible non-pharmacological measure is the use of Forced Air Warming. This intervention is recommended as an effective strategy for managing perioperative hypothermia. This study aimed to provide strong and up-to-date scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of using Forced Air Warming in preventing and treating perioperative hypothermia. The method used was a systematic review using the PICOTS approach and a search of articles in three databases: PubMed, Scopus, and ProQuest, as well as using PRISMA. A total of 12 articles met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and their eligibility met the threshold assessed using the JBI Critical Appraisal. The results of this study indicate that Forced Air Warming can treated perioperative hypothermia, reduced the incidence of hypothermia, and maintained perioperative patient body temperature. Comparisons of Forced Air Warming with resistive heating methods have shown varying results. The used of Forced Air Warming is an effective strategy in addressing perioperative hypothermia and temperature monitoring must be carried out continuously to maximize effectiveness and potential side effects.
