PERUBAHAN PERILAKU PADA TIKUS DENGAN INFEKSI Toxoplasma gondii

Transmisi Toxoplasma gondiimudah terjadi karena kemampuannya dalam memodifikasi perilaku hospes perantara. Kemampuan Toxoplasma gondiiyang dapat menginfeksi otak hospes perantara dapat mengubah perilaku hospes. Perubahan perilaku hospes tersebut dapat membantu kelangsungan hidup Toxoplasma gondii sehingga transmisi akan berlangsung terus menerus. Faktor yang diduga menyebabkan perubahan perilaku hospes perantara adalah naiknya kadar dopamin pada infeksi kronis Toxoplasma gondii dan meningkatnya sinyal dopamin tersebut berpegaruh dalam perilaku hospes yang mendorong hospes untuk mengeksplor lingkungan sekitar, termasuk urin kucing.
