Program Pemeriksaan Fungsi Paru dengan Peak Flow Meter di SD Taruna Karya 153, Kecamatan Cibiru
Sari

ABSTRACT
Respiratory diseases are still common, especially in children. This includes asthma, allergies, or respiratory tract infections. Efforts to overcome the problem, especially through early detection, were crucial in minimizing the dangers posed by respiratory diseases. Peak flow meter (PFM) is a simple measurement method that is effective and efficient for measuring lung function. Measuring peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) with a PFM can help detect asthma and other lung function disorders. This service aims to measure and describe the lung function of students in grades 4-6 at Taruna Karya 153 Elementary School. The method used in this service was to directly examine the students using anthropometric tools, namely digital weight scales and stadiometers, and lung function measurement using a PFM. From 240 students in grades 4-6 of Taruna Karya 153 Elementary School who took part in the examination, the overall average PEFR measured was 205.83±71.74 with average PEFR for male students 234.57±70.42 and female students 178.28±59.76. In conclusion, elementary school students in grades 4-6 have BMI levels within normal limits, but most have relatively low PEFR compared to the PEFR measurements of children in Thailand, Tebing Tinggi and Medan. This might be due to differences in race, genetics, geography, ethnicity, and age. Apart from that, the health condition of some participants which indicated symptoms of respiratory problems or environmental conditions such as domestic pollution or smoking habits were also factors that influenced low lung function measurement results. It is recommended that lung function checks be carried out periodically to monitor students' health conditions from an early age.
