ABSTRACT

Eclampsia is an obstetric emergency condition in the form of seizures in pregnant women which is usually preceded by preeclampsia. Eclampsia is an indicator of poor birth preparedness and complication readiness. Birth preparedness and complication readiness are important strategies of the maternal program that aim to improve timely use of professional services for mothers and babies. Delays in seeking care and lack of knowledge about the severity of symptoms contribute to more than half of all maternal deaths related to preeclampsia. The purpose of this community service is for participants to increase their knowledge about the preparedness of pregnant women's families for preeclampsia in preventing eclampsia. Community service activities begin with screening of pregnant women who are at risk of preeclampsia. Measurement of the preparedness of families of pregnant women with preeclampsia, then provided with counseling and demonstration of the use of the preparedness guide for families of pregnant women with preeclampsia in preventing eclampsia. At the end of the activity, participants were assessed for their knowledge of the preparedness of families of pregnant women with preeclampsia. The results of community service showed that there was an increase in the average knowledge of pregnant women's families about preventing eclampsia before and after the intervention, namely from 9.11 points to 11.09 points. Education is useful in increasing the knowledge of mothers and families and it is hoped that midwives can provide counseling on preparedness and the use of pocket books which are integrated into other activities at the health center.
