ABSTRACT

stroke is a rupture or blockage of blood vessels in the brain that causes a cessation of blood flow to brain tissue, resulting in disruption of oxygen and nutrient supplies. This condition results in rapid damage to brain cells and can cause various neurological disorders, such as weakness or paralysis of the limbs, balance disorders, speech disorders, and decreased functional ability. Elderly stroke survivors often experience static balance disorders that increase the risk of falls and limited functional activities, so they require targeted caregiver assistance. However, the process of checking and monitoring the balance at the Indonesian Stroke Foundation (YASTROKI) Yogyakarta is still carried out manually. This community service aims to evaluate the effectiveness of caregiver empowerment through training on the use of the Geriatric Care application in improving the mentoring and balance skills of elderly stroke survivors. The method used was a pre-post intervention study involving 30 caregivers and 30 elderly people. Caregivers are given training on the use of the application, especially the Single Leg Balance check feature. Results showed an increase in caregiver understanding by 46.3% and an improvement in the balance ability of the elderly as shown through an increase in Single Leg Balance results after intervention. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of the Geriatric Care application is effective in supporting assistance and improving the balance of elderly stroke survivors in the community.
