ABSTRACT

School-age children's health is a foundational pillar of SDGs Goals 3 and 6; however, the high risk of infectious diseases in the sub-urban area of Malang Regency remains hindered by a persistent knowledge-practice gap regarding Handwashing with Soap (HWWS). This community service program targeted all sixth-grade students at SDN Bokor through a systematic three-stage approach combining educational lectures, participatory discussions, and structured motor demonstrations of clinical-standard sanitation techniques. The results indicated that this experiential learning-based intervention was highly effective in enhancing students' practical skills to correctly and independently execute the six steps of handwashing. Nevertheless, field observations identified serious structural challenges, including the unreliability of handwashing stations and a limited supply of antiseptic soap at the school. Ultimately, while this participatory intervention successfully prompted an immediate shift in hygiene behavior, the long-term sustainability of this clean living culture depends heavily on addressing these systemic infrastructure constraints through collaborative efforts between school management and the local community health center (Puskesmas).
