ABSTRACT

Cancer cases are predicted to continue to increase in the future. Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases in the world today, especially in Indonesia. Cancer therapy takes a long time and is sustainable, so it requires high fighting power from the patient. In undergoing this therapy, it is necessary to have the role and participation of the caregiver and support system for these cancer patients. The current problem is that caregivers and support systems do not have a qualified understanding of care, assistance, and motivation for cancer patients. The purpose of this community service is to provide knowledge to caregivers in providing a support system for patients in terms of early detection of cancer, care of cancer patients, and psychological support for cancer patients undergoing treatment. Counseling that focuses on understanding the role of caregivers and support systems from various stakeholders involved in cancer management, such as doctors, cancer-related organizations, students, and the general public, is needed. In response to these problems, a talk show concept was held on February 9 at Andalas University Hospital. Various circles and backgrounds attended this activity. This counseling presented four speakers who played a role in cancer treatment. The results show an increase in knowledge based on the post-test as a measure of the success of counseling. At least 87.5 percent of respondents agreed that this counseling was beneficial.
