ABSTRACT

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a global health threat with significantly increasing prevalence, including in Kuta Village, Central Lombok. Low health literacy and self-efficacy are major barriers to disease management and complication prevention. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge through the GULALI Program (Diabetes Mellitus Control Movement) using a Peer Health Coaching approach. The participants consisted of 55 individuals from Kuta Village. The intervention included Peer Health Coaching training for cadres and families covering DM symptoms, complications, physical activity, blood glucose monitoring, pharmacological therapy adherence, and early detection of diabetic foot using the monofilament test. Additionally, capillary blood glucose screening was conducted in collaboration with the Kuta Health Center. Evaluation was performed using pre-test and post-test, analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. The majority of respondents were female (72.7%) with an average age of 45.2 years. The analysis results showed a significant increase in the average knowledge score from 2.89 (48.15%) to 4.32 (72%) with a p-value = 0.001. The proportion of participants with high knowledge increased from 28.3% to 68.3%. The GULALI Program is effective in increasing community knowledge regarding DM control and diabetic foot care. Synergy between cadres, families, and local health workers is the key to the success of the program towards a DM Alert Village.
