Program: Manajemen Hipertensi Berbasis Komunitas untuk Meningkatkan Fungsi Kardiorespiratori dan Kesejahteraan Mental pada Lansia
Sari

ABSTRACT
Hypertension in the elderly is a priority health issue closely associated with decline in cardiorespiratory function and impaired mental well-being. Low levels of physical activity and limited community-based exercise programs remain major barriers to independent hypertension management. This community service program aimed to improve cardiorespiratory function and mental well-being among elderly individuals with hypertension through the “JANTUNG” (Jaga Aktivitas Lansia Tunjang Unggulnya Kesehatan) community-based program at Posyandu Sawangan, Depok. The method included initial health screening, interactive counseling on hypertension and cardiorespiratory function, chest expansion exercise and breathing technique training, and knowledge evaluation using pre- and post-tests with questionnaires and VO2Max assessment. The program involved 40 elderly participants and 15 posyandu cadres. Results showed significant knowledge improvement from 60% before the program to 95% afterward. Participants became more proficient in independently performing breathing and chest expansion exercises, and demonstrated increased confidence in managing hypertension. Cadre involvement was instrumental in sustaining the program. This activity demonstrates that a community-based program integrating structured physical exercise, interactive education, and digital technology is effective in improving cardiorespiratory function and mental well-being in elderly individuals with hypertension.
