ABSTRACT

Cardiovascular health and cardiorespiratory fitness are essential components in supporting the physical performance of soccer athletes. Athletes with poorly controlled blood pressure (BP) and pulse accompanied by inadequate aerobic capacity are at risk of decreased physical performance, which may also lead to health problems, particularly in high-intensity sports such as soccer. This Community Service Program (CSP) aimed to monitor the cardiovascular health of soccer athletes through blood pressure, pulse, and maximal oxygen uptake (VOmax) assessments. The activity was conducted among athletes of Rampagoe Football Academy in Banda Aceh. Blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer, while VOmax was assessed using the Beep Test method. The results were analyzed descriptively to determine the profile and classification of athletes’ BP and VOmax levels. The findings indicated that most athletes had blood pressure within the optimal and normal categories (n=3 and 6; 27.27% and 54.54%, respectively). In addition, two athletes were found to have above-normal blood pressure; however, further evaluation and follow-up are still required. VOmax results showed that 45.45% of athletes were categorized as having poor aerobic capacity, while the remaining athletes were classified as moderate (45.45%) to good (9.10%). This PKM activity provided benefits in the early detection of cardiovascular health disorders and increased athletes’ awareness regarding the importance of regular and periodic monitoring of blood pressure and cardiorespiratory fitness (VOmax). Cardiovascular health monitoring through BP and VOmax assessments may serve as a preventive strategy to maintain physical fitness and support optimal training performance among soccer athletes.
