Abstract
Sexual violence against children is a serious criminal and social issue and poses a challenge to the correctional system in Indonesia. This study aims to examine the role of emotional regulation as a mediator in the relationship between impulse control and sexual violence behavior among inmates. The study employs a quantitative approach using a cross-sectional survey design involving 100 inmates convicted of child sexual violence at two correctional facilities in East Java, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using scales measuring impulse control and emotion regulation, as well as an index of sexual violence behavior based on correctional facility administrative records, and were analyzed using mediation analysis via the PROCESS Macro with a bootstrapping approach of 5,000 iterations. The results showed that the regression model was not significant, indicating that impulse control did not have a significant effect on sexual violence behavior, emotional regulation did not serve as a significant predictor, and did not function as a mediator in the relationship between impulse control and sexual violence behavior. However, impulse control was found to have a significant effect on emotional regulation. These findings indicate that emotional regulation is not a mediating mechanism that explains the relationship between impulse control and sexual violence. Consequently, rehabilitation programs for inmates need to be developed in a more.
